What in the workshop?

The club has a workshop dedicated to allowing member the space and tools needed to complete boat maintenance, repairs and for personal projects. While we open the clubhouse every Sunday for racing, we also use of the workshop throughout the week for members who are working on their boats or for personal build projects.

The workshop has a range of tools that members have access to and all members must have an induction and sign a waver before use of the space. Personal tools can be brought and used but must then be removed from the space unless pre-agreed by the committee. We have a number of evenings dedicated to project work and maintenance, and it is often just a good opportunity to have a chat and a cup of tea while the glue drys.

We do allow children to access the workshop after they become members under their parents guardianship and must be accompanied by their adult at all times when in the workshop. For those who enjoy the process of building boats and learning about the electronics and engineering aspect of the sport, we ask for their parents to accompany them for an induction into the safe use of the clubhouse, and a waiver is signed by the parents. They are not permitted to use any of the power tools until over 18 or unless assisted by a DBS checked club member.

Beginners

We have beginner classes to help those just starting out, covering boat setup and maintenance, and the fundamentals of sailing. If you’ve never been in a boat or just want to try something new, the beginner classes are a great way to get into sailing.

Intermediates

A large number of our members are seasoned sailors who just want to enjoy their passion without having to head to the coast or club. It’s a convenient way to have a sail in the winter months when sailing a full size boat is a less appealing option. We have free sailing sessions for those who prefer to do their own thing, or our racing 101’s, where you can learn (or perfect) race starts tactics and race rules, without the risk of getting wet.

Advanced

For anyone wanting to get into racing, RC yachts allow you multiple races in short succession, a great way to improve understanding of start line advantages and the endlessly complex rules of racing yachts. Our club boat classes are raced internationally, so whether you’re a sailor looking to become more competitive or someone looking to race model yachts professionally, we can help.

Joining the CMYC gets you on the water and sailing in the heart of London. The clubhouse can be used to store boats (space allowing) and makes a sailing a breeze, with easy access to the pond and refreshments available in the clubhouse.

We do allow children to become members under their parents guardianship and already have a number of young members who are a mixture of avid sailors and budding engineers. For sailing we have a great program to help get them started, with free-sailing sessions to give them plenty of practice time. If they then would like to race, we check they have the required skills before being able to do so. For those who enjoy the process of building boats and learning about the science and engineering of the sport, we ask for their parents to accompany them into the clubhouse for an induction into the safe use of the clubhouse, and a waiver is signed by the parents.
