Sailing on Clapham Common
The pond is open to all, with CMYC hosting organised racing in a number of classes: 1 meters; 6 meters and Dragon Force 65’s. Their clubhouse – next to the pond – provides easy boat access and storage, with club boats available to use for anyone wanting to give it a go.
Race Schedule
1 meters are raced on the 1st Sunday of the month; 6 meters are raced on the 3rd Sunday of the month; Dragon Force 65’s are raced on all other Sundays and used as club boats each and every Sunday to give those new to the sport a chance to learn how to sail and start competing. If you’d be interested in racing on Long Pond, book a free taster session, or email us at claphammodelyachtclub@gmail.com
Pond Yachts
A pond yachts is a functioning model boat, with no remote control. They can be raced, using vane systems that allow the boats to stay on a particular heading. We provide a large number of free to use pond yachts every Sunday and its a great way to introduce someone to sailing, or to encourage an interest in engineering. Head to the Pond Yachts section to find out more.
How to Join?
Anyone can use Long Pond, so if you have your own boat, bring it down! The club have a yearly membership, allowing you to join in on race-days and use the clubhouse for boat projects and storage.
