clapham model yacht club
Projects
The workshop can be used for personal projects and we have a range of material to help those through a build and repair. The club have a long history of building model yachts, from moulding the hulls to making the keels, and this knowledge is available to view on the CMYC website.
Electronics
If you have want to build your own RC yacht then our electronics guide will help you get started. Taking you through what you’ll need, to testing, assembling and installing the electronics. We have videos on our youtube page dedicated to assisting you with setting up your boats electronic system.
Sails and Rigging
We have a wealth of knowledge at the club that can help to fine tune your boats current setup, or help you to make one from scratch. There are infinite variations of sail setup so it really depends on your goal. A simple sail can be easy to create (we have a lesson on making a set of sails available on our schools program) but if you want to be winning races, then the fine tuning of sails will help you get an advantage over your competitors.
Boat Build
At the club we specialise in RC yachts but we are happy to see any kind of project undertaken at the club. We have a number of members with tugs and gunboats so it is a question of, what do you want to build? Our members have built yachts using traditional wooden plank on frame methods, fibreglass mouldings, lathes and just about everything else you can think of. Take a look at the CMYC’s archive for detailed records of project builds. We have a series of guides available to help someone looking to take on a new project build.
